Southern Sandstone is a particularly soft rock and those who climb here must abide by the Code of Practice to ensure they have a minimal effect to the rock.
It’s important that you educate yourself about Southern Sandstone and you must have an understanding of the Code of Practice before going climbing.
Here are some the guideline highlighted in the Code of Practice:
- Use a static climbing and belay rope. Slings come in handy too.
- Make sure your karabiner is set over the edge.
- Make sure no moving rope is in contact with the rock.
- Clean your shoes before you climb
- Reduce your chalk use to a minimum
- Do not climb on wet rock
- Do not use brushes
- Strictly no abseiling or lowering off
